I first became acquainted with typing in my high school typing class. My favorite typewriter was a grey IBM Selectric - Model C, the "Cadillac" of typewriters during the early 1960s. There were only about five or six of them in the classroom, which meant that you had to be swift on your feet when entering class or else you would have to use one of the less popular typewriters...sigh. My typing teacher was tough! On the first day of class, she whipped out her nail clipper and went around the room cutting everyone's fingernails to a level just below the finger pads. To this day, I cannot type if my nails extend beyond my finger pads; I have to cut them. Needless to say, I am in awe of women who are able to type with nine inch nails. My typing teacher also had some other eccentricities when it came to typing but I survived, persevered, and became quite speedy on the typewriter. I looked forward to my typing class and thus, a love affair was born.

My decision to become a Legal Secretary was the result of my numerical phobia. My first legal job was with the Legal Aid Society of Los Angeles in 1969, as a "trainee". My supervisor Almarie Thornley, a fun-loving older woman and a competent secretary to whom I credit with providing me with a solid legal foundation and which has served me well over the years. I have had other "mentors" throughout the course of my legal career and I am grateful to them all for their guidance.

In my early days as a Legal Secretary, it was considered to be a "career", something you did for the rest of your working life, which was not exactly what I had envisioned for myself at that time. However, years have passed and I'm still a Legal Secretary, albeit more "seasoned". It is this "seasoning", combined with my love of words and typing, that has been the catalyst for the creation of wurdz, (transcription services). My services are for anyone who has an ongoing relationship with words, i.e., attorneys, students, writers, doctors, etc. and all transcription is done off-site.

So, the next time you are faced with a major typing project, give me a call! I look forward to providing you with friendly, professional service in a timely manner.

Thank you for choosing wurdz to meet your transcription needs!
